For me Marin Headlands is a place to process, I go there to lose my train of thought in the infinite rolling hills that encompass the land, to watch the water glisten in the sunlight, and to connect with my community. The natural beauty and the wildlife that surrounds marin headlands offers a place of connectivity to all its visitors. You are connected to the earth, yourself and history. Today, as our community enjoys the incredible nature of the Marin Headlands, I want people to feel connected to the community of 1965, who joined together to stop marincello and protect the place that we have all grown to love. It is thanks to their passion & determination for this beautiful land.
Marin County residents opposed the planned community, “Marincello”, since the beginning, but it took some time before they were actually effective in stopping it. Many people worried that Marincello would diminish the quality of life and believed that it would have a cascading effect on turning other native lands into future construction sites, so they fought hard to not let this happen.
So, as you stand at the edge of this ghost settlement on top of Wolf Ridge, acknowledge and connect with its past, which protected this land of natural beauty that so many people love and cherish, but also be a part of the future, as this area will continue to be a piece of generations to come.
