This project is dedicated to telling the hidden story of Marincello, a proposed housing development that would have forever altered the character of the Marin Headlands. Marin residents of the 1960's fought to preserve the Headlands, a fight which they eventually won, resulting in the Headlands earning protected National Park Status. The Marincello Project aims to install 6 non-intrusive posts at six key points on the headlands trails, outlining the borders of the would-be development. Each post contains a QR code that, when scanned, links the hiker to a website that tells the story of Marincello. These posts are unobtrusive and designed to blend into the natural surroundings of the Golden Gate. We only seek a temporary permit to put up these posts to spread awareness and tell the story of the Marin residents who saved this land for all of us to enjoy.
Marincello, a planned community on the Marin Headlands, was abandoned in the 1960s before any buildings could be built, so where might this exit lead?
Marincello Trail offers stunning scenery and is home to a vast range of animals and plants. Although if Frouge and the Gulf Oil Corp had been successful in their plan, the trail would have been part of a planned community.
The natural beauty and wildlife of Marin Headlands provides us with a connection to the 1965 community that fought against Marincello to protect the area.
